Ultimately, we decided to use the topic 'How Ponzi Scheme Works?' Following that, I tried to carry out some research on Ponzi Schemes and
how typical infographic video flows were.
I then tried to draft out a bit of the script as seen below.

Task
To-do list:
- Form a group
- Determine a topic we wish to do
- Make the script and storyboard
- Compile our assets
- Compile our sound effects
- Compile our voice lines
- Animate the video and make sure it fits into 3 mins
//This blog will go over the task I have done in the project. Pls
view my teammate's blog for more information on their part//
Group formation and task delegation
For my group, we had a total of 10 people and these included:
- Katelyn Tan Kye Ling (project manager/leader)
- Alyssa Aisyah Binti 'Arief Nasran
- Chen Yuan Yuan
- Chong Hui Yi
- Iman Binti Kamarudin
- Janice Marie Eng Chia Hui (me)
- Johnny Lam Wee Zhe
- Mercy Chong HuiZiun
- Nausheen Nazim
- Reema Arif Hamza
For this project, our leader split us into 2 teams:
- Drawing team:
- Compiling the script (split with some of the animators)
- Draws the assets
- Developing the storyboard (animators made the initial draft and the drawing team revised it)
- Identifying the art/design direction
- Developing mock-up for the animation team
- Animation team:
- Developing the storyboard (animators made the initial draft and the drawing team revised it)
- Determine animation direction
- Compiling sound effects
- Editing and compiling video
- Inserting in the voice-over
There was an extra team, the voiceover team which included:
- Iman
- Katelyn
I volunteered to be in the Drawing Team along with Katelyn, Alyssa, Hui
Yi, Mercy and Reema.
Determining the topic + some research
Our group leader called for a meeting to discuss the potential topics we
could pursue for this project. We all tried to find any infographic videos
on the internet that looked like they could have some improvements.
I managed to find some videos and one of them included 'How Twinkies Are
Really Made | The Follow | TODAY (not animated) (link)'.
Figure 1.1 List of videos found by the entire group (22/3/25)
For the research on Ponzi Schemes, I looked into the original video and
tried to find some extra information on Bernie Maddof.
For the research on the infographic video flow, I analyse some Ted Ed and
BBC videos. Some of the video I looked at were:
- How to spot a pyramid scheme - Stacie Bosley
- A simple guide to chaos theory - BBC World Service
- Why you procrastinate even when it feels bad
From there it seems that most infographic videos followed this
structure:
- Starts off with a story/case study related to the concept
- Explain the definition of the concept
- Explain the effect/what happens when the concept happens
- Point out how to identify/spot/avoid the concept

Scripting + Storyboarding
After showing Katelyn (grp leader) the drafted script, she said it was
good and we could use it as a base. So after brainstorming sessions, we
managed to decide the flow of the story. It would go as follows:
- Introduction
- What is a Ponzi Scheme?
- How does it work?
- Signs to look for
- Outro
Following that, the Drawing team split up the script and worked on
making the script for each scene. I worked on Scene 2 (What is a Ponzi
Scheme?) with Alyssa. We managed to finalise the script but were asked
to summarise it to fit into the 3-minute time limit. Below is the
finalised and summarised script.

We then handed it off to the Animation team to come up with a storyboard.
They came up with one and handed it off to us, and we revised it a bit to
make it flow well. Additionally, the drawing team also broke down the
script in Excel to see how long the whole video would roughly be.

Asset Drawing Time
When it came to drawing the assets, we tried to lock down our art
direction and colour palate for the project. Iman came up with some
designs for the characters, which were then refined by Huiyi.
Hui Yi, who was basically our art director, also set some colours for use
to use in each scene. Additionally, she gave us a key art (sort of she
showed us an example of her scene and I took it as key art) to follow.
After that, I tried to make the assets as close as I could to Hui Yi's
creative direction.
The scene I was working on was Scene 2: What is the Ponzi Scheme. I was
working on this with Alyssa again as well.

& B(right) character design (22/3/25)

I tried out some variations with the given colour palate and ran it by our
art director to make sure that the colours and design were right. After
getting approval from the art director, I arranged the art boards in order
and labelled each of them to make sure that it would be easier for the
animators to understand the flow.
I also made an animatic with my scenes to make it easier for the animation
to understand, again.

I actually attempted to make the animation for scene 2. However, it was not used in the end as the animator in charge of scene 2 had already animated the scene. Attached below are some of the animations I made using Adobe Animate.

Feedback
Week 1
- No feedback this week
Week 2
- Between your 'How cats are domesticated' and 'How a Ponzi Scheme Works' idea, I think the Ponzi Scheme one has more room to work with as it is a more 'awareness' topic.
- You can also put in a number for a scam helpline at the end.
Week 3
- You can try to record the voice-over first and then see how long it will take to present everything
Week 4
- The storyboard looks good. Try to record your voice lines and see how long it takes to read the entire script.
Week 5
- No feedback was given
Week 6
- You can try adding some audio into your animatic to make it more understandable
Week 7
- Progress looks good so far.
- But you can see in some of the scenes, the character has no leg and no head, you can try to add the head or legs in or try to not show those.
Reflection
What I have learnt:
- Finding a good reference is very helpful. When making an infographic video, I found that analysing other infographical videos helps guide us on what the structure should be like.
- Miller's Law is extremely helpful. It's like creating slides, where you have to make sure the page is not too cramped.
- Using the LATCH principles also really helped, as it allows us to find out what information we need.
Observations:
- It's hard to maintain consistency in group work as everyone has their own drawing/animation/writing style.
What can be improved upon:
- I think in the future, I would have like to research more on the topic. There is a lot of content that could have been put in, such as Pyramid Scheme VS Ponzi Scheme, list of famous Ponzi Schemes in Malaysia and much more.
- In future, I definitely would want to improve our time management skills. I noticed that most of the work I handed in to the group for this project was very last minute, which is bad.
