Lectures

Task

To-do list:
  • Identify 3 AR app ideas and consult with Sir to see which one is viable
  • Identify 1 idea to pursue
  • Make the proposal slides; Slides must include:
    • About the project
    • Research
    • Proposed Solutions
    • Creative Direction

3 ideas

I came up with 3 ideas and consulted with Sir.

My first idea was to make a sensory ar app with a book. The book will contain textures for kids to touch. The kids can scan the textures to pop up ar visualisations of things related to the texture (like fluffy = dog).

My second idea was to have an ar sewing pattern app that can help users trace their sewing patterns directly onto their fabric.

My final idea was to have an app that could help students visualise the functions of the lungs with ar projections.

Sir recommended I focus on the first 2 ideas. I decided to go with the sewing pattern app idea (even tho sir seems to not know what it is T^T). I felt like this was the easiest idea to carry out.

Proposal

After deciding to do the AR sewing pattern app idea, I got to work on the proposal.

1. Research

I did a bit of digging and found some inspirations for the app. One was the AR app Davinci Eye which allows users to trace an artwork onto their canvas with the help of AR. Another app was Makerist AR app. This app helped users trace their sewing pattern directly onto their fabric.

I did not want to make my app identical to the Makerist AR app so I tried to think of another AR function to add into the app. I then decided to add an AR tutorial on how to assemble the patterns into the final product, much like a senior's past work.

For the user persona, we were told that we could come up with them. I tried to base mine on people I knew in real life for *authenticity*.

2. User Journey Map

For the user journey map, I had initially done one for the journey without the app and one for with the simulated app experience. I decided to only include the journey map without the app so as to not clog up the proposal.

After plotting out the gain points and pain points from the journey without the app, I took the gain points and made them into features of the app while finding solutions for the pain points.

After coming up with the solutions, I plotted the new user journey map.

3. Sketches and Visualisation

I did some wireframe sketches of how the app would look like. After that, I brought it to Figma and started digitizing it. I also started with some visualisation.

4. Creative direction and References

For my colour palate, I decided to use 3 main colours to keep it simple. The typography was Montserrat.

Feedback

Week 6
  • I don't recommend you do the lungs one.
  • Try to do a user journey map to see what else you can add to your app
  • You can focus more on the first 2 ideas, the sensory book one and the sewing pattern app.
  • Be mindful that you need to use the app for the end product so try to make something that can be used
  • For the visualisations please use better images, don't include the gird image
